Check whether an IPv4 address, IPv6 address, or domain is reachable online – with response times, terminal-style.
Works for IPv4, IPv6, and domains worldwide.
Here you'll find answers to the most common questions about our free Ping Test.
A ping test checks whether a server, domain, or IP address is reachable on the network. Small data packets are sent to the target and the time until a response comes back is measured – known as the response time or latency.
A high response time indicates a slower connection, for example due to large geographic distance, network congestion, or technical problems at the target server. Low values generally indicate a faster, more direct connection.
There can be several reasons: the server is offline, a firewall deliberately blocks ping requests for security reasons, or there's a DNS issue. A missing result therefore doesn't necessarily mean the service itself is unreachable.
Yes, our ping test supports both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses as well as regular domain names, which are resolved automatically.
Yes, Speed-Net's ping test is a free tool that you can use without registration, as often as you like, for any target.
The ping test primarily measures the reachability and response time of a specific target, not the general bandwidth of your internet connection. For a speed measurement, we recommend a dedicated speed test.
Yes, you can enter any valid subdomain, main domain, or IP address – the test works reliably for any publicly reachable target.
No, the domains or IP addresses entered are used exclusively to run the test and are not stored permanently or evaluated for any other purpose.
Regularly checking server availability helps you detect outages early and keep an ongoing eye on the reliability of your own or third-party servers – often before customers or visitors even notice a problem.
Within Switzerland and Europe, response times of a few milliseconds up to just over 50 milliseconds are typical. For targets on other continents, response time naturally increases due to physical distance, without this indicating a problem.
